Follow-up research: Kraftcentrum for New Music/New Directions, Norrbotten County Council (2012-2013)

The Kraftcentrum for New Music was a three-year development project conducted 2011-2013 with the aim of highlighting new music in various genres. The project was county-wide and included national and international participants, and was based around the Studio Acusticum Concert Hall and the Piteå School of Music (Departments of Arts, Communication and Education at Luleå University of Technology (LTU)) and the Norrbottensmusiken ensembles, such as Norrbotten NEO and the Norrbotten Big Band. On the vocals side, the Erik Westberg Vocals Ensemble is a major contributor to new music in Norrbotten as a result of tours and releases.

The venture resulted in the New Directions Festival being held in May-June 2013, which featured artists such as Polar Prize winner Kaija Saariaho.

After the publication of the final report in January / February 2014, the Kraftcentrum for New Music/New Directions has been maintained by Norrbottensmusiken.
