Resource for new music in the Swedish region of Västra Götaland

During 2014, I have been asked to carry out a study on audience development in new music on behalf of RNM (Resurs Ny Musik – Resource New Music), focusing in particular on five Swedish music festivals.

Resurs Ny Musik (RNM)

RNM shall

  • strengthen contemporary music’s position and increase its relevance in society
  • serve as a resource for contemporary music and audio art in the Västra Götaland region by providing support and an overarching framework
  • gather skills and knowledge and identify and strengthen those areas in which resources or further efforts are required

Four particular areas of focus have been identified:

  • Artistry development
  • Internationalisation
  • Structures & resources
  • Audience development

RNM is an independent organisation that “welcomes project ideas, thoughts and needs from individual actors, musicians and composers as well as from regional institutions.” The initiative is supported by Kultur i Väst (Culture in the West), Kalvfestivalen and Gothenburg Art Sounds (GAS), and receives development support from the Swedish Arts Council.
